"HIV/AIDS NGO Capacity Building in Belarus" (October 2005 - September 2008)
The project is aimed at reducing the transmission of HIV within the country by strengthening the capacity of Belarusian NGOs to deliver effective HIV/AIDS services that target high-risk populations, as well as educate the general public.
The project targets over 100 NGOs and community groups in all regions of Belarus and seeks to enhance their organizational and managerial capacity, quality of service provision, networking and inter-sectoral partnership.
Specific project activities include workshops and seminars, experience exchange visits and best practices presentations, a micro-grant program, publication of the information bulletin "Vmetse!" (Together), development of the National HIV/AIDS Trainers Team, and providing support to Belarusian AIDS Network (BAN).
Accomplishments:
- Over 100 Belarusian NGOs involved in the developmental project activities.
- 72% of project targeted NGOs improved their management, service provision and networking capacity.
- 16 micro-grants for the total amount of $167,000 awarded to Belarusian AIDS-service NGOs to support their services to vulnerable groups.
- 58 new HIV/AIDS services developed by NGOs in 26 towns in 6 regions.
- 26,000 youth, women, IDUs, MSM, and PLWHA directly served.
- National HIV/AIDS Trainers Team created within the project conducted over 70 workshops on various aspects of HIV/AIDS in 25 different communities.
- Belarusian AIDS Network's capacity strengthened to enable it to effectively represent, advocate for, and promote the opinions and interests of Belarusian HIV/AIDS service NGOs.
