CCF-Belarus Supports Public Awareness Campaigns on Alternative Care Development and Child Abuse Prevention

CCF-Belarus continues to support public awareness campaigns on alternative care development and child abuse and neglect prevention within the Supporting Orphans and Vulnerable Children project. The campaigns are being implemented in five communities by the local child protection services, with financial support, training and consultative assistance provided by CCF.

The campaigns on child abuse and neglect are being conducted in Kobrin, Zhodino and Volozhin, and aim to raise public awareness about the issue of child abuse and neglect, and to encourage citizens to report cases of child abuse and neglect to the child protection services.

The objective of the campaigns on alternative care development in Chausy, Orsha, Zhodino, and Volozhin is to raise motivation of citizens to adopt orphaned children or to consider foster care.

Both campaigns use a wide variety of information tools including brochures, posters, promotional spots on local TV and radio, articles in the newspapers, public presentations, round tables and conferences.

To date, the campaign activities have reached over 40% of the population in the target communities, and the number of individuals who reported child abuse and neglect cases, and of those who contacted the appropriate local agency for information about adoption and foster care has increased three times compared with the same time period before the start of the campaigns.
